EXAMPLE MARBLES FOR MY ADVANCED MARBLE MAKING CLASS
APRIL 9 - 10, 2005
AT
THE STUDIO - CORNING MUSEUM OF GLASS

The first 2 pages are marbles that were made prior to the class to show the students what I was going to demonstrate.  The two different sizes of each style show what the marble looks like before and after dipping in the crucible furnace.  The three on the last page are additional marbles that were made during the class demonstrations.

Not Dipped Dipped In Crucible Furnace

Description

3-D Rainbow Swirl

Each marble has clear layered between the stripes, thus making the stripes stand out above the black base glass.  However, the 3-D effect is much more noticeable in the marble that has been dipped in the crucible of crystal clear.

The marble on the left is 1-1/4" in diameter and the one on the right is 1-7/8" in diameter.

Fiery Prism Spider

The name "spider" comes from the pattern on the ends of the marble.  The term "prism" comes from the fact that the stripes on this marble include three clear stripes between each set of colored stripes.  The clear stripes are of a different glass that has a higher refractive index than the base glass.  This results in three tiny prisms between each set of colored stripes.

The color difference shown between the two marbles is accurate.  The crystal encasement on the dipped marble traps light and therefore brightens the entire marble.

The marble on the left is 1" in diameter and the one on the right is 1-1/2" in diameter.

3-D Back Twist

As in the 3-D Swirl, the colored lines are separated by clear, but the 3-D effect is much more noticeable in the marble that has been dipped in the crucible of crystal clear.  The base glass is black.

The marble on the left is 1-1/8" in diameter and the one on the right is 1-3/4" in diameter.
